Access guidance
- There are seats inside the Museum and benches and picnic tables outside.
- The entrance on Riverside offers step-free access to the ticket office and Pumping Station. Some areas of the historic Pumping Station are narrow or have a step, making them inaccessible to wheelchairs. We are striving to install further ramps where we can. There is a rough track up to the exhibitions on Pye and Cambridge Instrument Company, which can be difficult for some wheelchairs. Alternatively, you can use the public footpath and re-enter the site through the staff entrance. There are accessible toilets in the Steam Engine Room, the Pye Building, and the cafe. There are two accessible parking spaces at the entrance of the Pye Building. Please use our staff entrance on Cheddars Lane. If possible, please call 01223 500652 in advance to book a space and so we can ensure the gate is open for you. We will do a full access audit and provide information on our website as soon as we can, but please contact the Museum on info@museumoftechnology.com or 01223 500652 for more information on access in the meantime.
- The distance from the entrance gate to the ticket office is around 30-50 meters, depending on whether you use the ramp or steps. The distance from the Lower Site to the Upper Site is around 40 meters.
- On the Lower Site, there is one accessible toilet inside the historic Pumping Station and one outside the building. There is one accessible and two other toilets in the cafe next door. There is one accessible and two other toilets in the Pye Building on the Upper Site.
- Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere on site. There are grassed areas for toileting and there are water bowls on the Museum site and in the cafe next door.
- Carers and essential companions get free entry.
- Large formats of text panels are available. Many of the exhibits can be touched.
- Sign language interpretation can be provided with notice.
