Access guidance
- There are six steps to the main entrance, with handrails as well as an access ramp. Alternative step-free access to reception and the Duke's Hall concert venue can be found via the ramped side entrance of the York Gate building. This is approximately 30 metres to the left of the Academy's main entrance. York Gate is wheelchair accessible to all floors. The front entrance to the Museum and the Academy Chimes shop has steps. Details of the step-free side entrance are as shown below. The museum's three floors are all accessible via the lift. Step-free access to both buildings is signposted from the York Gate building front entrance and is to the right (Eastern) side of this building. The ramped entrance has a remote entry system via voice intercom. The main building is accessed by going to the basement level via the main lift and then the platform lift. The narrowest points are 800mm wide and 1200mm deep for the platform lift and 730mm wide for the main lift. There are a number of doors on the route to the main building. Most of our performance spaces have semi-flexible seating arrangements, and suitable spaces for wheelchair users can be arranged. Please note that advance notice is very helpful in enabling us to ensure your requirements are met. Please discuss with the Box Office when booking your ticket.
- Accessible WCs are located in the basement of the Main building and on floors 1 and 2 of the Museum in York Gate.
- Guide and companion dogs are welcome at the Academy. Please let us know when you are booking tickets so that we can offer appropriate seating where your dog can remain with you during the performance.
- We have some induction loops, available for our performance venues by advance request from the Box Office. Our box office has a T-Loop system in place when booking tickets in person at the Academy. Should you require an induction loop for a performance, please ask at the box office who will provide you with a portable loop.
