Snowdon Mountain Railway

Overview

Located in North Wales, the Snowdon Mountain Railway is the UK's only public rack and pinion railway with diesel and heritage steam travel options. Beginning at Llanberis station, the route passes through woodland and crosses rivers before beginning the 3,560ft ascent to the peak. On reaching the summit, visitors have a 30-minute stay at the dynamic visitor centre – 'Hafod Eryri' – where they can grab a bite to eat and enjoy captivating panoramic views. Hafod Eryri is a uniquely designed, RIBA award-winning granite structure, offering spectacular views from the wall of glass at its front. It acts as a terminus for the railway, providing refreshment and giving visitors a chance to learn about the fascinating history of the mountain. Trains depart from Llanberis Station and begin their climb up Snowdon, Yr Wyddfa, a journey experienced by some 12 million travellers since 1896. With stunning scenery and awe-inspiring views it's all part of a great day out for you and your family in North Wales.
