Overview
"For more than 1,400 years, a Cathedral dedicated to St Paul has stood at the highest point in the City. Frequently at the centre of national events, traditions have been observed here and radical new ideas have found expression under the iconic dome. In many cases these events have left some physical record as well as echoes in the intangible memory of the building. The present Cathedral, the masterpiece of Britain's most famous architect Sir Christopher Wren, is at least the fourth to have stood on the site. It was built between 1675 and 1710, after its predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London, and services began in 1697."

Access guidance
- The south churchyard entrance is step-free, and is the recommended access for entry for wheelchair users and people who cannot negotiate the main west front steps. The south churchyard entrance leads to a modern lift serving the crypt and Cathedral floor. The quire and sacrarium on the Cathedral floor have a small user-operated chairlift. Assistance is available should it be required. Cathedral wheelchairs are available on request. A temporary ramp is currently in place on the north side of the Cathedral in order to test proposals for a more permanent solution that will increase St Paul's accessibility for all.
- Left handed, right handed and ambulant unisex cubicles are all located within the crypt. The crypt is accessed by the lift. Usable lift space - 1,400mm length x 1,300mm width.
- Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are welcome in the Cathedral at all times. Water for dogs is available.
- Audio Description Guides Avaliable. Guided Touch tours can be booked in adbance. Large print or Braille copies of orders of service avaliable.
- The Cathedral is equipped with a hearing loop system that covers the Cathedral floor and the OBE Chapel in the crypt. A multimedia BSL signed tour with subtitles, is available.
