Wookey Hole
Overview
Wookey Hole Caves (/ˈwʊki/) are a series of limestone caverns, a show cave and tourist attraction in the village of Wookey Hole on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills near Wells in Somerset, England. The River Axe flows through the cave.[3] It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for both biological and geological reasons.[4] Wookey Hole cave is a "solutional cave", one that is formed by a process of weathering in which the natural acid in groundwater dissolves the rocks. Some water originates as rain that flows into streams on impervious rocks on the plateau before sinking at the limestone boundary into cave systems such as Swildon's Hole, Eastwater Cavern and St Cuthbert's Swallet; the rest is rain that percolates directly through the limestone. The temperature in the caves is a constant 11 °C (52 °F).

- The caves are kept in as natural a state as possible, which means they are not wheelchair accessible and visitors with mobility issues may find the spaces challenging at times. Our knowledgeable guides are ready to assist you, offering extra time and support throughout the tour if you need it.
- Please be aware there are approximately 200 steps along the journey through the caves and a few spots where you need to briefly duck down to about 1.3 meters.
- Water bowls are provided for assistance dogs, so please feel free to ask one of our friendly staff members for a drink for your dog.
- We understand the importance of accessibility, which is why we offer a concessionary rate for registered disabled individuals. This rate includes a 50% reduction on standard admission rates for the disabled person and their registered carer. The rest of the party will pay the standard admission rates. Please note that this concessionary rate cannot be combined with other discounts or promotions. We recognize that some situations may require more than one carer.
