Access guidance
- Wheelchair seating is available in all our auditoria. All our auditoria are accessible from the ground floor as are our box office, cloakroom and shop. The introduction of new lifts during our recent refurbishment means that step-free access is now available for more of our building than ever before! Lift access is available for our restaurant and conference spaces, all levels of our main auditorium, our meeting rooms and rehearsal rooms. Step-free backstage tours are available, but please mention your access requirements when booking so that we can plan our route accordingly.
- Parking for Blue Badge holders is available outside Brindley Drive car park (multi-storey at the back of The REP). Parking for Blue Badge holders is also available on Cambridge Street at the rear of the building, but spaces are extremely limited. There are four disabled parking bays located on Cambridge Street (behind The REP) for the use of theatre-goers with access requirements.
- Accessible toilets are available on the ground floor and mezzanine levels of the foyer.
- We welcome assistant animals throughout the theatre; they can be taken into the auditorium during the performance. Please notify the Box Office when making your booking so we can ensure your seats can accommodate your assistant animal
- Members of our Access Register will also be able to make use of the priority booking period and discounts on accessible performances. If you are Deaf or disabled (or book on behalf of someone who is), you can join the register by calling the Box Office on 0121 236 4455. The Register also offers accessible publicity and complimentary companion seats for those who require it.
- Our Audio Described Performances offer a live description of what's happening on stage in addition to what the actors are saying. This can be done using headphones that you can borrow from The REP, or through the mobile connect app. Headsets can be pre-booked through Box Office using a small returnable deposit. Alternatively, you can access the audio description via a smart phone and headphones by downloading the MobileConnect app and logging on to the MobileConnect wi-fi network. Customers wishing to enjoy an Audio Described Performance should be in their seats 15 minutes before the performance begins in order to hear the full description of the set and costumes. At every performance where Audio Description is provided, there is a pre-show Touch Tour 90 minutes before the performance. Touch Tours give you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the set and costumes before the show and sometimes even to meet the performers. Touch tours are free, but places are limited so advanced booking is essential. Information is also available in alternative formats including large print and audio versions. To ensure you receive content in the most appropriate format, we recommend that you join our Access Register.
- We offer an up-to-date Hearing Assistance system in all three of our auditoria. All of our counters are fitted with hearing loops and several members of our Front of House team use BSL
- You can join The REP's Access Register by signing up for an online account or changing the preferences of your existing account. Being a member of our Access Register gives you access to information in appropriate formats (e.g. large print brochures) and ensures that you have access to the best possible seats (e.g. the seats with the best view of the closed captions.) You can also join the access register by phone. Relaxed performances are designed to welcome people with a learning disability or sensory and communication conditions, or anyone that would benefit from a more relaxed performance environment. There is a relaxed attitude to noise and movement and some small changes made to the light and sound effects.
