Access guidance
- We have staggered entry times which decreases the amount of time spent queueing on arrival. In order to avoid queueing at our food outlets, we would recommend eating a little earlier than usual. We mitigate the time spent standing by providing frequent access to seating throughout the whole area.
- Most of the park has level access, and all our viewing platforms are wheelchair accessible by permanent ramps. Wheelchairs are available from our main gift shop for a returnable deposit of £20. Most of our paths are smooth tarmac, however, some are gravel paths. There is one step up into the ticket office and there is no lift or ramp. However, visitors are required to pre-book tickets online and then pass through our ticket booths. All ticket booths are accessible by car. Our four drive-thru reserves can be accessed by car, minibus or coach. All visitors must stay in their vehicles and keep windows closed. Visitors cannot access the reserves without transport, however the majority of our animals can be viewed from the platforms. Some display information is low, for wheelchair users. In the amusements area, there is a single step into the dodgems and the Astroglide slide has a steep flight of steps. Our pedal boats are not wheelchair accessible as there is a step down into the boat. There is designated wheelchair seating in the bird of prey arena. There is no designated charging area for mobility scooters or battery-charged wheelchairs, but we do have access points where batteries can be charged if needed.
- Seating areas are provided at regular intervals so that there are plenty of rest options when moving between areas.
- We have three main toilet blocks. One is situated at the entrance of the park near the ticket office, the other is in the centre of the park near the amusements area, and the third is near the exit by the pedal boats. There are also additional toilets within the food court, and portaloos by the BBQ area. Disabled toilets are located throughout the Safari Park in all our main toilet blocks. We also have a Changing Places toilet located beside our disabled car park, which can be accessed using a radar key.
- Assistance dogs are permitted entry into the main body of the park. They cannot enter any walk-through enclosures, however. Please make staff aware of your assistance dog upon entry to the park. There are green areas for toileting. A water bowl can be supplied upon request from our restaurant and food outlets.
- Disabled visitors who require special assistance receive free admission for one accompanying carer upon receipt of relevant paperwork such as a DLA letter, carer's letter or a 'plus one' travel card.
- During the bird of prey flying displays and sea lion training demonstrations, our presenters wear portable microphones and explain the various behaviours demonstrated by our animals. Keeper Q&A sessions are held throughout the day at animal viewing platforms. These interactive sessions offer visitors a chance to find out more information about their favourite animals.
- There is a hearing loop in the amusements area of the park. Two staff members are trained to Level 2 in Makaton.
- We have over 70 parking spaces reserved for disabled visitors. All Safari Park staff in customer service roles have had disability awareness training.
