St George's Hall Liverpool
Overview
St George's Hall is widely regarded as one of the finest neo-classical buildings in the world and is a Grade I listed building. The idea for the Hall came about in the early 1800s from Liverpool people who were concerned about the lack of a place for the triennial music festivals, and shares were sold to raise funds. A venue was also being sought for the Civil and Crown Courts and it was decided that one building would serve both needs. St George's Hall fell into disrepair in the 1980s but was reopened in April 2007 following a £23m award-winning refurbishment project, and is now a focal point for cultural, community, civic, corporate and performing arts activities. St George's Hall is central to Liverpool's Cultural Quarter and was an important part of the city's successful bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2008, as well as a key part of the area which is a designated World Heritage Site.

- NORTH HALL ENTRANCE Please note, this entrance is situated on William Brown Street (near Steble Fountain and facing Walker Art Gallery), and is typically used for Concert Room performances. Ramped access and customer lifts are available for wheelchair users. Please ask our Front of House staff for more information when visiting. SOUTH ENTRANCE Please note, this entrance is situated on St John's Lane, opposite Courtyard Bar & Kitchen. Access is via two sets of automatic double glass doors that lead into the Reception area on the Ground Floor (accessible to wheelchair users).
- Accessible toilet and baby changing facilities are available on the Ground Floor, whilst Male and Female toilets are also located on Ground Floor and Third Floor. We also have an accessible toilet located on the Third Floor. All toilets are clearly signposted for visitors.
- Lighting levels for The History Whisperer tour have been determined after consultation with Liverpool City Council's Health and Safety team. During presentations, the lighting levels will be low in the Welcome Room, Cell Corridor and Crown Court, but staff will be on hand at all key locations to help any guests. The lights will be turned on after presentations before the public leave the Courtroom. Sufficient lighting is also in place for all other public areas of the building. The building consists of a combination of areas with soft lighting and non-glare lighting. All fixtures and fittings contrast against their respective backgrounds for clear visibility purposes. Please note, due to our status as a Grade I listed building, some aspects are not allowed to be altered. As such, not all floor areas are light in colour, but respective areas have a definition where needed (notably, via white nosing on our internal stone steps).
- Experiential rooms for The History Whisperer have an induction loop facility, with hearing loops available for hire at Reception.
- If visitors require a quiet space or quiet times during their visit, please make front of house staff aware and they will guide you as appropriate.
