Access guidance
- Visitors will be required to stand for the duration of the tour, which is 70 minutes, unless they are using a wheelchair. Most of the Dungeon has level pathways, however, some floor surfaces are uneven. There are also low gradient slopes and stair lifts. The Dungeon cannot accomodate electric wheelchairs, however manual wheelchairs are available to hire for the visit. The venue can only accomodate one guest using a wheelchair at a time to ensure an evacuation chair is available to exit the building. Guests have to be able to transfer from wheelchair to the chair of the stair lift unaided by Dungeon staff. Wheelchair users are advised to book in advance .
- Wheelchair users need to be able to transfer un-aided in and out of the ride seats.
- There are accessible toilets next to the main building entrance and by the Mirror Maze, which is approximately 25 minutes into the tour.
- Assistance dogs are welcome in the York Dungeon. However, the attraction does feature loud noises, mist effects and smells. For more information on this, please contact the venue.
- The Dungeon is very dark and the floor is often uneven. Please email the venue for more information.
- Deaf visitors, guests with hearing impairments and users of BSL can bring an assistant free of charge. The York Dungeon experience is largely delivered by actors and voiceover audio often in low lighting, so some deaf visitors, guests with hearing impairments and BSL users may not fully experience some elements of the attraction. The venue can also provide a 'Impaired Hearing Guide'. Visitors are advised to contact the venue prior to their visit to arrange the use of a guide.
- Flashing lights feature in the first show at the York Dungeon. An alternative route is available. Please speak to a member of the team for more information on where strobe lighting is used in the Dungeon. The attraction also features drop benches and movements under the seats. In addition, there are no accessible parking spaces at the Dungeon. The nearest car parks with accessible parking spaces are the Castle Car Park (Post code:YO1 9SA) and Piccadilly Car Park (Post code: YO1 9NX).
